Russia Ready to Consider Prisoner Swap with U.S., Says Lavrov

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Phnom Penh – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said today that Russia is ready to consider a prisoner swap with the United States, but within the frameworks of the channel established by Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden.

“We are ready to study this issue within the framework of the channel agreed by Putin and Biden,” Lavrov said at a press conference in Cambodia’s Phnom Penh when answering a question about a possible prisoner swap between Russia and the US, according to the official Russian news agency TASS.

Lavrov’s remarks come a day after U.S. basketball player Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison for drug possession and smuggling, and after White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said a “substantive offer” had been made to “bring her home,” after which she urged Russia to accept it.
