Speaking at this event organized by the Atlas Media group, the Moroccan ambassador to Canada, Souriya Otmani said that the Throne Day symbolizes for all Moroccans, including the community established abroad, an “unparalleled opportunity to highlight the ever stronger and perennial bonds of love, respect, affection and deep consideration that the Moroccan people vow to the august Person of HM the King and the Moroccan monarchy.”
She stressed that the Sovereign has always surrounded His high benevolence and special concern for Moroccans living abroad, noting that Moroccans around the world do not miss any opportunity “to express their attachment to the person of HM the King.
Otmani also highlighted the unwavering commitment of this community to the Moroccan identity and values, “values of which we are very proud and that we have in common with our friends in Quebec and Canada, and which are reflected in the openness, friendliness, hospitality, peace, love, respect for others and the joy of living.”
She said, in this context, that the celebration of the Feast of the Throne coincides this year with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and cooperation between Morocco and Canada, adding that this ceremony is also an “excellent” opportunity for reunion, exchange, and socialization.
The celebration was attended by provincial and federal deputies, mayors of Montreal boroughs, city councillors and members of Arab and African communities established in the province of Quebec.
To mark this highly symbolic event, the Moroccan flag was raised to the sound of the national anthem in Ottawa, Laval in Quebec, Fredericton in New Brunswick, Winnipeg in Manitoba and Edmonton in Alberta.
This ceremony took place in the presence of the Honorary Consuls of the Kingdom in each of these provinces and the Consul General of Morocco in Montreal, M’hamed Ifriquine. On the same occasion, the Niagara Falls and the Edmonton Bridge were illuminated with the national colors.
