MONUSCO: One Death, 20 Minor Injuries among FAR Contingent

‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Rabat – A soldier belonging to the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) contingent deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) died Tuesday, said a statement by FAR General Staff.

The deceased succumbed to his wounds caused by gunfire during rebel attacks on several deployment sites of FAR contingent, taking advantage of an aggressive demonstration by the local population against the presence of MONUSCO on July 25 and 26, the same source said.

These attacks, it added, also caused 20 light injuries to soldiers of FAR contingent at the NYAMILIMA site, who were immediately treated.

All measures have been taken to ensure the security and protection of FAR contingent’s deployment sites. Also, the necessary steps have been taken to repatriate the body of the deceased before his burial in an official ceremony, the statement concluded.
