Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection Highlights African Resilience Initiatives in Gabon

Libreville – African climate resilience initiatives were highlighted during a side event held by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection on the sidelines of the African Climate Week, taking place in Libreville from August 29 to September 2.

Recognizing the important “climate role” of universities and the private sector, the Foundation has given the floor to young experts, students and managers, to highlight the scientific knowledge, skills and culture needed to understand environmental, health, social and economic issues of the green transition and sustainable development.

The side event provided a platform for regional dialogue to promote effective resilience building among youth at local, national and regional levels.

It also examined the role of African stakeholders in building community resilience to climate change through capacity building and the development of tangible initiatives and start-ups.

The meeting brought together representatives of civil society, the network of green universities and youth education in Africa as well as the Qualit’Air Pact. It addressed ways to engage businesses to measure, reduce and possibly offset their greenhouse gas emissions through voluntary pilot projects.

In this wake, the model of Morocco’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) was highlighted as one of the companies committed to this environmental approach.

The side-event was also an opportunity to present the initiative “African Youth Climate Hub”, the Platform of African Youth for Climate focused on promoting ideas and solutions of African youth to address global warming.

The African Climate Week is attended by heads of state and government, officials and experts from around the world to take part in these meetings, a prelude to the COP-27 scheduled in Egypt.

The Kingdom of Morocco is represented at this major climate event by Leila Benali, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui. Also taking part in this event are Nasma Jrondi and Zainab Rachdi, respectively Senior Air & Climate Expert and Program Manager at the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
