Morocco’s National Library to Host Next ISBN General Assembly in Sept. 2023

Oslo – The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM) will host the next General Assembly of the international ISBN (International Standard Book Number) Agency on September 10-12, 2023.

The decision was announced at the end of the annual General Assembly of the ISBN, held on September 8-9 at the National Library of Norway in Oslo, said a statement from Morocco’s Embassy to Norway and Iceland.

The meeting, marked by the participation of Mohamed Al Ferrane, director of the BNRM (which oversees the Moroccan national ISBN agency), was attended by more than 150 representatives of national and regional ISBN agencies, the statement said.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss recent developments in the publishing industry and to review the correct use of the ISBN code for books, it added.

The London-based International ISBN Agency is appointed by ISO as the registration authority for the ISBN system worldwide.

An ISBN is essentially a product identifier used by publishers, booksellers, libraries, internet retailers and other supply chain participants for ordering, listing, sales records and stock control purposes. The ISBN identifies the registrant as well as the specific title, edition and format.
