Dakar: Morocco, Senegal Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Energy Transition

Dakar – Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali held talks, Friday in Dakar, with Senegal’s Minister of Oil and Energy, Sophie Gladima, on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy transition.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 18th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), held under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

Talks between the two parties focused on strengthening cooperation between Morocco and Senegal, especially on renewable energy development, gas, rural electrification and regional integration.

The Moroccan minister also held talks with her counterparts from Niger, Mahamane Sani Mahamadou, and Mauritania, Abdessalam Ould Saleh, on strengthening cooperation in the field of environment and sustainable development.

Benali participates in the High Level Segment of the 2nd session of the 18th African Ministerial Conference on the Environment, held on September 15-16 in Dakar.

The AMCEN was established in December 1985, following a conference of African ministers of environment held in Cairo, Egypt. Its mandate is to provide advocacy for environmental protection in Africa; to ensure that basic human needs are met adequately and in a sustainable manner; to ensure that social and economic development is realized at all levels; and to ensure that agricultural activities and practices meet the food security needs of the region.
