El Guergarat: Police Foil International Drug Trafficking Attempt, Seize over 3 Tonnes of Chira

Rabat – Customs at El Guergarat border post, in collaboration with national security policemen, on Tuesday foiled an international drug trafficking attempt.

The attempt concerned a total amount of 3 tonnes and 215 kilograms of cannabis resin (chira), said a statement released by National Police (DGSN).

This seizure is the result of a surveillance operation at this border post, said the release, indicating that the quantities of drugs seized, carefully hidden in packages reserved for agricultural products, were stored in a trailer attached to a truck of international transport registered in Morocco.

The driver of the truck, a 34-year-old Moroccan national, was arrested and subjected to judicial investigation, in order to determine possible links of this case with international drug trafficking networks, concludes the same source.
