These meetings were an opportunity to emphasize the depth and strength of fraternal relations between Burundi and Morocco, and examine ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas in the interest of the two friendly peoples.
Thus, the speaker of the House of Advisors met with the Burundian Prime Minister, Gervais Ndirakobuca, who said that his country wants to deepen cooperation relations with Morocco in various fields, expressing the desire of his country to benefit more from the Moroccan experience in various sectors, including education and agriculture.
Mayara was also received by vice president of the Republic of Burundi, Prosper Bazombanza, who welcomed the quality of relations between Morocco and Burundi, based on cooperation and solidarity at all levels and through various initiatives, citing in this sense the opening of a Consulate General of his country in Laayoune in 2020.
For his part, the speaker of the upper house reiterated the readiness of Morocco to provide support, share its experience, expand cooperation programs with Burundi and accompany the country in priority areas, including education, training, agriculture, technical cooperation and digitization, in addition to establishing partnerships between regions and local authorities.
Regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the speaker of the house of Advisors reiterated his thanks and gratitude to the Republic of Burundi for its firm position and its constant support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the autonomy plan in the southern provinces as the only solution to this artificial conflict, welcoming the mutual support of the two countries in the various continental and international meetings and forums in a framework of sincere and active solidarity.
Mayara also had a meeting with president of the Senate of Burundi, Emmanuel Sinzohagera, during which both parties affirmed their determination to further strengthen the inter-parliamentary relations and identify new areas of work and the establishment of a fruitful partnership.
In addition, the speaker of the House of Advisors met with Secretary General of CNDD-FDD, Burundi’s ruling party, Révérien Ndikuriyo, who praised the friendly relations between Morocco and Burundi, expressing his willingness to further strengthen them in the service of both countries and friendly peoples.
Mayara concluded his series of talks with a meeting with the Mayor of Bujumbura, Jimmy Hatungimana, during which both parties discussed ways to establish partnerships between regions and local authorities of both countries, as a lever for local development.
The upper house’s speaker chaired the 9th consultative meeting of ASSECAA on September 19 and 20 in Bujumbura, which focused on two important topics, the first related to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Arab-African economy and the measures taken by governments to counter them, while the second dealt with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its impact on supply chains and energy and food prices.
