Tangier Hosts Mediterranean Coast Day Celebration

Tangier – A celebration was held on Wednesday in Tangier on the occasion of the Mediterranean Coast Day, with the support of the Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC).

This event is part of the implementation of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP), one of the six regional activity centers of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

This meeting took place in the presence of representatives of United Nations agencies, ministerial partners and civil society, as well as researchers and academics.

It included two panels on the challenges and potential of the Mediterranean coastline, the second of which concerned specifically the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Mediterranean coastline.

“Morocco was chosen for the celebration of this day, which aims to raise awareness of all stakeholders at national and local levels, as well as civil society to the importance of the coastline,” said Mohamed Benyahya, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.

In a statement to M24, Benyahya said that climate change will have significant effects on the region, stressing the need to strengthen the resilience of the Mediterranean coastal regions and Morocco in particular.
