Arrouchi who opened this meeting initiated on the occasion of the commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, noted that despite the general adherence to this UN resolution, there remains a significant gap in the implementation on the continent.
“Women remain the most affected by the consequences of the breakdown of peace and security. They are often victims of violence during armed conflicts. Women are most often left out of peace negotiations, excluded from reconstruction processes and are less likely to obtain justice for violations of their human rights during conflicts,” lamented the Moroccan diplomat.
In this regard, the commemoration of resolution 1325 requires a capital importance insofar as it allows to highlight the achievements of our Union and Member States in this field and to discuss in a framework of collective reflection to ensure a good regional and national ownership, noted the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the AU and UNECA.
Commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, is an opportunity to highlight the progress made in its implementation and the provisions pending implementation to honor our collective commitments to this resolution, a fundamental reference in the protection of women, said the Moroccan diplomat.
Arrouchi seized this meeting marked by the presence of several senior officials of the UN, the European Union and the AU, to reiterate the Kingdom’s continued and resolute commitment to contribute effectively to strengthening African action to achieve sustainable solutions for Africa and defend the vital interests of the African citizen in peace, security and development.
The Moroccan diplomat also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s vision under the visionary leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, aiming at uniting the continent, responding in a responsible, committed and effective manner to the expectations and aspirations of African citizens to end conflicts, ensure peace and stability and contribute to the conditions for a prosperous life enabling the African people and continent to regain the place they deserve in the international arena.
