In a clarification, in response to allegations contained in a video recording released by the brother of the former prisoner A. S who served a prison sentence in the local prison of Zagora for contempt of a public official in the exercise of his duties and a body, and according to which he was mistreated by officials of this prison, the DGAPR said that the former prisoner enjoyed all the rights recognized by law, received necessary medical care and has never been mistreated by officials of the penal institution.
“At the time of his incarceration, the person concerned handed a letter of thanks and gratitude dated June 3, 2022, which he himself wrote in two pages and of his own free will and in which he appreciates the work of improvement of the conditions of detention accomplished by the DGAPR in general, and the management of the penal institution in particular,” said the same source, adding that he also expressed his gratitude for the good treatment he received from all officials, without exception, and refered to the selflessness they showed in carrying out their mission.
The DGAPR pointed out that if the ex-detainee had really been subjected to bad treatment by the officials of the establishment, he would have invoked it as the reason for the hunger strike of which he had given the notice to the direction, whereas he had linked this hunger strike to his case in justice.
By peddling and repeating these false allegations, the brother of the ex-detainee seeks by his blackmail to achieve “material gains”, insisted the DGAPR, stressing that the ex-detainee is best placed to speak himself of his alleged case of abuse in detention.
“Moreover, if this case is already brought to justice, except for unavoidable concerns, there is no reason to talk about it in the media,” concluded the same source.
