The 8th Iqraa competition aims to promote the practice of reading with the help of readers, writers and intellectuals. It will involve pupils and students from around the Arab World.
This meeting, which was attended by Moroccan writers and intellectuals, was an opportunity to urge students to register for the Iqraa competition via https://www.ithra.com/ar/iread.
The presentation ceremony included a debate on “the secrets of private libraries” led by the writer Abdesslam Benabdelali, and a conference on reading and translation, led by Moroccan author and translator Mezouar El Idrissi.
Nora Alharthi, head of media relations at the King Abdulaziz International Cultural Center “Ithra’a”, explained to MAP that the Iqraa program aims to popularize reading among youth in the Arab world.
This year’s edition will travel to several Arab cities including Rabat, she said, welcoming the interest that the program arouses among young Moroccans and inviting students from all Moroccan universities to take part in this noble initiative.
For his part, the director of the BNRM, Mohamed El Ferrane, emphasized on the importance of this kind of initiative, especially in the era of social networks that have increased the disinterest in reading.
