Tourists: Recovery Rate of 80% at End of Oct. (Minister)

Rabat – The rate of recovery of tourists has reached 80% at the end of October 2022 in Morocco, exceeding the world level which stands at 70%, said Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor.

Ammor, who was responding to a question on the strategy for promoting tourism, during a session of oral questions held at the House of Advisors, noted that the rate of recovery of tourism revenue in foreign currency has risen to 103% at the end of September, compared to its level of 2019, that is before the Covid-19crisis.

Regarding domestic tourism, revenues have increased significantly, she noted, adding that the number of overnight stays have, for their part, reached 45% at the end of September against 30% before the crisis.

The good performances of the tourism sector are due to the effective management of the Covid-19 crisis, in addition to the support devoted by the State to the sector as part of the emergency plan.

In this regard, the Minister recalled the mobilization of 2 billion dirhams to back the tourism sector, of which MAD 1 billion is dedicated to the rehabilitation of hotel units, stating that this initiative “has had a positive impact on the sector”.
