Moroccans, First Non-EU Community Affiliated to Social Security System in Spain

Madrid – The Spanish Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security reported on Monday that 296,835 Moroccans were affiliated to the social security system in Spain at the end of October, making them the most contributing foreign workers.

According to the data of the Ministry of Labor, Moroccans remain at the top of the list, followed by Colombians (124,668) and Venezuelans (120,969).

The total number of foreigners affiliated to the Spanish social security system reached 2,462,506 in the first ten months of 2022, an increase of 6,487 active persons compared to September.

Of the total number of foreign workers contributing to the Spanish social security system, some 1,620,076 are from outside the European Union and 842,430 are from European Union countries.

Overall, foreign workers accounted for 12.2% of the total number of people registered for social security in October in seasonally adjusted values.

According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), some 879,943 Moroccans were legally established in Spain up to January 1, 2022, an increase of 0.8% (+7,184 people) compared with January 1, 2021.
