Morocco, Cambodia Discuss Means to Strengthen Bilateral and Multilateral Parliamentary Relations

Rabat – The strengthening of bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations was the focus of talks, on November 22 and 23, between speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, and Cambodian officials, as part of his participation in the 43rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Talbi El Alami and the accompanying delegation held talks with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hun Sen, as well as with president of the National Assembly, Samdech Heng Samrin, and president of the Senate, Say Chhum, on the occasion of his participation in the 43rd General Assembly of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, which is held from 20 to 25 November 2022 in the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the theme “Advancing Together for Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Association of Southeast Asian Nations,” said the House of Representatives in a statement.

During these talks, the statement said, the Cambodian side reiterated the constant position of the Kingdom of Cambodia in favor of the territorial unity of the Kingdom of Morocco, while reaffirming the importance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations, especially after the Moroccan House of Representatives obtained the status of “Observer Member” at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In the same vein, discussions between the two parties also focused on ways to strengthen these ties, including through exchanges of visits, friendship groups and sustainable parliamentary communication, regional and international coordination in various parliamentary forums and exchange of experiences and expertise, the same source added.

For his part, Talbi El Alami welcomed the quality of ties between the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Cambodian Parliament, calling for their strengthening at bilateral and multilateral levels.

In this regard, he stressed the importance of these meetings and the sustainability of effective parliamentary communication, exchange of views, sharing of experiences and expertise, especially on issues of common governmental and parliamentary interest. He also recalled the responsibility of MPs at the national, regional and international levels to promote dialogue, understanding and coordination in order to address common challenges and achieve the highest levels of development and common welfare.
