Under this agreement, the two sides will strengthen their cooperation on several axes, including business statistics, Big Data and alternative data sources, as well as modeling and economic forecasting.
Speaking on this occasion, the High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, said that this partnership establishes a new area of cooperation between Morocco and China, already linked by several cooperation agreements and is also a new major road opened in the field of statistics between the two countries.
Lahlimi also highlighted the deep, strategic and sustainable cooperation between Morocco and China, mentioning in this regard the initiative of “the Belt and Road”, which marks a new era in cooperation between China and Morocco, and in which the Sino-Moroccan economic cooperation is part.
In this sense, he stressed that the two statistical institutions, by their role to monitor the economies of both countries, ensure the planning of economic development, and assess public policies and their effectiveness, should establish a partnership framework to further strengthen their cooperation.
Lahlimi said that there is a huge and expanded area of cooperation opened through this convention, especially in the field of new technologies, research of development models and economic analysis, and also in the field of sustainable development goals.
In this regard, the High Commissioner for Planning said that alternative methods to surveys are being developed to analyze performance in terms of sustainable development goals, including through the use of satellites, techniques and Big Data.
For his part, the NBS Director, Kang Yi, said that the two countries are linked by a long-standing friendship, which has manifested itself in the mutual visits of the two Heads of State, as well as through the memoranda of understanding signed in several areas.
Similarly, Yi underlined that the partnership between the HCP and the NBS is part of the continuity of cooperation between the two countries, noting that it will further strengthen collaboration, especially in the field of business statistics and Big Data.
The Director of National Bureau of Statistics of China also noted that the field of statistics is now facing new requirements, especially in the era of the rise of the digital economy, hence the importance of this convention which marks a sustainable and win-win cooperation.
