2022 World Cup: Morocco Have Potential to Compete with Anyone, Says Lekjaa

Casablanca – The Moroccan national team has the potential to compete with any team, said the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa.

The national team has its chances against Spain, because it finished first in a group where there was the second world, Belgium, and Croatia, runner-up, said Lekjaa in an interview with news website Médias24. “I think all the ingredients are there to go as far as possible.”

Returning to the qualification for the Round of 16 at the expense of Canada (2-1), Lekjaa stressed that his feeling was similar to that of all Moroccans, “pride and honor”, noting that “what was also magical is the Moroccan public on site.”

“The moment of the national anthem is a magnificent moment to live on site. We have worked hard and lived these unforgettable moments thanks to the directives and the permanent follow-up of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The president of the federal body said that after the victory and qualification against Canada, he called on the players to believe in their potential and have confidence in them, saying that “the level of the World Cup is not the physical or technical preparation, it is the mental that plays.

“When you enter the field without inferiority complex, you can compete with anyone,” he noted.

Regarding the physical form of the national elements after the game against Canada, Lekjaa said that “all this is followed with the best technology, medical staff … All that is needed to the best standards.

Returning to the change of coach with the appointment of Walid Regragui, the federal official explained that “today, everyone says it was a good decision … it was necessary to make a decision, I took it, I assumed it, I assume it.”

Lekjaa added that “what was missing in the national team is this atmosphere […]. It was necessary to find the atmosphere of a group that lives well. For me, the ideal profile was Walid.”
