French Senators Hail Socio-Economic Development in Moroccan Sahara

Laayoune – A delegation of French senators hailed, on Saturday in Laayoune, the socio-economic achievements and the momentum of development in the capital of the Moroccan Sahara.

This visit allowed them to know and see first-hand the dynamics of socio-economic development underway in Laayoune, said members of the France-Morocco inter-parliamentary friendship group, at the end of this visit, at the invitation of the Chamber of Councilors.

In a statement to the MAP’s online information channel, Ronan le Gleut, from the “Les Républicains” group, said he was “impressed” by the level of socio-economic development and the quality of infrastructures, as well as by its architectural aspects.

He also praised the very strong commitment to the improvement of the health offer, citing the Hospital and University Center and the Faculty of Medicine.

The French deputy also said that this visit testifies to the will of the inter-parliamentary group of friendship between France and Morocco of the Senate to contribute to the strengthening and deepening of Moroccan-French friendship.

For her part, the vice-president of the France-Morocco inter-parliamentary friendship group of the Senate of the French Republic, Michelle Gréaume, underlined that this visit has allowed to know first-hand the investments made in the region and the projects and infrastructures that are being implemented.

“We have been surprised by the level of socio-economic development in Laayoune,” said Gréaume, of the “Communist, Republic, Citizen and Ecologist” group, noting that this development drive will improve the quality of life and provide ample opportunities for the local population.

In turn, the president of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Cooperation and Friendship Group in the Second Chamber, Mohamed Zidouh, affirmed that this visit has allowed members of the French Senate from different political spheres to see the development achieved in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

Thanks to the royal will, a strong impetus has been given to the development of the southern provinces in the last decade, Zidouh said, highlighting the efforts made in the region as part of the new development model for these provinces.

It is worth recalling that the delegation of French senators had held, on Friday, meetings with the Speaker of the House of Councilors, Enaam Mayara, and the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka.

The delegation of French senators, on a working visit to the Kingdom from December 1 to 4, is also composed of Sylvie Goy Chavert from the “Les Républicains” group and Angèle Préville from the “Socialiste Ecologiste et Républicain” group.
