Migration Management: Morocco Plays Leading Role in Mediterranean Region

Rome – Morocco plays a leading role in managing migration in the Mediterranean region, said Saturday in Rome, the chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs and Moroccan Expatriates in the House of Representatives, Nadia Bouaida.

The National Strategy for Immigration and Asylum (SNIA) is now a “model of migration management of the most advanced, both legislative and institutional,” having regularized the administrative situation of several thousand migrants and integrate them into Moroccan society, said Bouaida, during a panel on the EU’s relations with its Mediterranean neighborhood, as part of the 8th conference of Rome MED – Mediterranean Dialogue.

Morocco is a strategic and committed partner of the European Union with which the partnership in the field of migration goes back several years, she noted, recalling, in this sense, that the Kingdom and the European Commission have concluded, last July, a renewed partnership in the field of migration and the fight against networks of human trafficking.

The Morocco-EU partnership continues to deepen, thanks to a bilateral dialogue “permanent, transparent and fruitful”, said Ms. Bouaida, reviewing the various agreements and partnerships concluded, as well as the milestones of political, human and technical rapprochement between the two parties.
