Morocco Fully Supports AU’s Community Health Development Initiative (Minister)

Kigali – Morocco fully supports the African Union (AU) initiative for the development of a strong community health capable of strengthening the resilience of health systems, contributing to regional and continental health security and promoting sustainable development efforts, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, said on Monday in Kigali.

Speaking at an event on the “Institutionalization of the community health workforce towards a sustainable and resilient community health system in Africa” on the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference on Public Health in Africa scheduled for Tuesday in Kigali, the minister highlighted the first African high-level conference on risk reduction held in Morocco three weeks ago, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and which was crowned by the political declaration of Marrakech.

The Declaration has succeeded in proposing the necessary development axes to build a resilient and sustainable health system, both nationally and continentally, said the Minister.

“If I mentioned this conference, it is to quote the message of His Majesty the King who underlines and reiterates Morocco’s commitment to support all efforts aimed at strengthening the level of well-being of the populations. Thus His Majesty the King said in this message that citizens’ health, which is paramount in promoting solidarity and closer bonds between peoples, is crucial for effective South-South cooperation,” added Ait Taleb.

The Minister noted that “it is also thanks to all the crises we have faced, at one time or another in our common history, that it is relevant to say today that Africa is strong in its expertise and its hindsight in the face of health risks and threats. “For decades, even centuries, we have developed our capacities, our perspectives, our philosophy, and it is now time to invest all this in future options that will benefit all African nations and contribute to the well-being of future generations,” the Minister stressed.

Ait Taleb also mentioned the relevance of including the issue of institutionalization of community health workers among the topics to be discussed, on the sidelines of this second international conference on public health.
