Legislative, Institutional Reforms to Help Increase Renewable Energy Share to 52% by 2030 (Minister)

Casablanca – The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, said on Tuesday that the legislative and institutional reforms carried out in accordance with the High Royal Directions, will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix to 52% by 2030.

Responding to an oral question at the House of Councillors asked by the group Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) on “The measures to be taken to raise the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix,” she added that “the government is determined to accelerate the pace of development of renewable energy through the strengthening of the legal arsenal in order to promote a climate conducive to private investment.”

Benali also said that her department is working to accelerate the pace of implementation of projects in the development phase of a capacity of about 4.6 gigawatts, announcing that permits have been granted to renewable energy projects for the Office Chérifien des Phosphates, with the aim of decarbonizing all industrial activities of this office.

She also reported the launch by his department of several programs and initiatives to develop projects in the field of renewable energy, in addition to the kickoff for the implementation of a program with a total capacity of 400 megawatts from solar photovoltaic energy, the aim being to support small and medium enterprises. She said that four companies have been selected to carry out projects on seven sites.

The Minister also announced that her department is working on the development of a national roadmap to enhance the value of organic waste, including household and agricultural waste or the reuse of wastewater.
