Government Chief Holds Talks with Millennium Challenge Corporation President

Washington – The head of the government, Aziz Akhannouch, met on Wednesday in Washington with the president of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Alice Albright.

This meeting, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, is part of the US-Africa Leaders Summit, which is being held from December 13 to 15 in the US capital and at which Akhannouch is representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

During this meeting, the head of government underlined that the two MCC pacts from which Morocco has benefited, for a total amount of about $1 billion, have had an extremely positive impact on local populations.

For his part, Albright underlined that these compacts in Morocco constitute a “success story” for the MCC.

Both parties also expressed their “great satisfaction” with the state of progress of Compact II, which has a commitment rate of over 90% and a disbursement rate of around 80%.

On this occasion, Akhannouch invited the president of the MCC to come and celebrate the closing of Compact II in Morocco in 2023.

The U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit brings together representatives of some fifty countries, civil society and the private sector from the African continent, as well as officials from the U.S. administration and the African Union Commission.

Participants in this three-day conclave discuss issues ranging from the Covid-19 pandemic to climate change, democracy, governance, security, trade, investment and the development of partnerships between African countries and the United States.
