IFFHS Awards 2022: Morocco’s Regragui World 3rd Best National Coach

Casablanca – Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui, who became the first African and Arab technical executive to lead his team to the World Cup semi-finals, has been ranked third best national coach in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

The title of best national coach in the world, announced on the website of the IFFHS, is awarded to the coach of the Argentina team, Lionel Scaloni, winner of the World Cup 2022. He succeeds the coach of Italy, Roberto Mancini.

Regragui, who took over the reins of the Moroccan selection to replace Vahid Halilhodzic, has managed to build a competitive team that he guided to the 2nd round of the World Cup in Qatar as leader of Group F, ahead of strong teams like Croatia and Belgium, before eliminating Spain, then Portugal and land in the semi-finals.

The 47-year-old former Moroccan international, who was appointed head of the Atlas Lions a few months before the start of the World Cup, also made his mark with Wydad Casablanca by winning the African Champions League and the Moroccan Championship.
