Al Arjat I Prison Administration Denies Allegations of Contact Break between Prisoner M.Z., his Family

Rabat – The Al Arjat I local prison administration denied an electronic website’s allegations reporting an interruption of contact between prisoner M.Z. and his family, where the website argues that this was related to “an alleged deterioration of his health.”

In a clarification, the administration of this prison said that on February 9, 2023, a temporary interruption of telephone lines and Internet connection was recorded following a network failure outside the institution.

This failure, which prevented any contact between inmates and their families, was repaired on the same day after the intervention of the company.

According to the same source, the website in question “has tried to instrumentalize this incident, setting itself up as a teacher both to the General Delegation of Penitentiary Administration and Rehabilitation (DGAPR) and other institutions of the state.”

This, according to the same source, “exposes [the website’s] hidden agenda, the desires and evil plans of its instigators and their stubbornness to build scenarios of low quality imagining that they will influence the judicial process involving the prisoner.”

The administration of the prison said that this “campaign of disinformation […] has opened the way to other parties who seek to instrumentalize the case of the said prisoner,” exemplifying with a person “who puts on a show in a vain attempt to obtain a maximum of views for commercial purposes at the altar of journalistic ethics.”

The DGAPR “reserves the right to follow all legal procedures to deal with these irresponsible and reckless practices that have nothing to do with serious and professional journalistic work.”
