Gov’t Chief Meets with WB Director General of Operations

Rabat – The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, met on Monday in Rabat with Axel Van Trotsenburg, Director General of Operations at the World Bank (WB), who was accompanied by Farid Belhaj, the Bank’s Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa.

The meeting was an opportunity to welcome the cooperation relations between Morocco and the WB Group, and to examine the prospects and means to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two parties, said a statement from the department of the Head of Government.

This meeting also allowed to review the structural reforms initiated by the government, in accordance with the High Royal Directives, underlines the same source.

On this occasion, Akhannouch praised the Bank’s efforts in supporting development and modernization projects in the Kingdom, especially highly strategic projects, such as social protection generalization, public sector reform, as well as the continued implementation of sectoral strategies.

The Head of Government also reiterated Morocco’s pride to host, during 2023, the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will be held in Marrakech, noting that these events will be an opportunity to bring together again the worlds of economics and finance on African soil, half a century after their last holding, concludes the statement.
