This first post-Covid conference aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the Lions of the Mediterranean Sea, compare lionistic experiences, discuss themes and activities related to the association’s themes, carry out joint activities and address issues of common interest, Moudni, chairman of the conference, told MAP.
“We all know that all humanity has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and our communities need us, our services and our solidarity now more than ever,” he said, stressing that the choice of themes is always related to the Lions Clubs communities’ expectations.
“Today, we have chosen the theme of immigration, a topical issue that affects all countries, especially those in the south and north of the Mediterranean,” he said, noting that this edition will also be an opportunity to discuss women’s role in the Mediterranean and the water crisis, a phenomenon that particularly affects the countries around the Mediterranean.
The governor of District 416 said that the crises faced by our friends in the northern Mediterranean have created new needs, adding: “we must listen to our communities to better serve them.”
He also explained that the innovation and creativity contest, entitled “Innove Service 2023 Contest”, is open to any Lions club in the Mediterranean region and rewards any innovative service project in their communities.
Moudni said that this contest is a crossroads of emulation and competition on topics that aim to achieve innovative projects or service by Lions Clubs and that meet a real need of their communities, stressing that Lions Clubs are always looking to improve services to their communities.
“This contest will allow us to identify and deploy the best service projects carried out by clubs, in order to provide the best services to our communities,” he stressed.
Referring to the outreach projects organized for the benefit of the population, the official said that the Club has carried out this year several projects, the most important of which is the one conducted in the town of Tatoft (Larache province), which was affected by forest fires, with a budget of about one million dirhams.
Regarding the training of ophthalmology professionals, Moudni noted that the district 416 has organized training for 33 ophthalmologists in Africa, to bring them closer to the latest technology and enable them to practice their profession in their countries.
He noted that the Club has also launched a number of sustainable projects, such as social solidarity centers: the centers “Malaika”, which aim to take care of children suffering from Down syndrome.
Moudni stressed that the district 416, established in 1953, celebrates this year its 70th anniversary, noting that the first club was established in Casablanca and then in Rabat and Tangier.
