Celebration of Ombudsman Institution’s Anniversary Comes in Context of Major Reforms (Official)

Rabat – The celebration of the Ombudsman Institution’s 20th anniversary comes in a context of major reforms carried out by Morocco, the Kingdom’s Ombudsman Mohamed Benalilou said Tuesday in Rabat.

“This celebration is organized today in a context marked by major reforms launched by Morocco and also the achievements recorded in consolidating the foundations of a judicious administration,” he stressed in his speech at the opening of an international conference on the theme ”Ensuring the development dimension of the effectiveness of Human Rights in public policies: What role for the Mediators and Ombudsmen?”.

He added that the Ombudsman Institution has made the equitable and fair access to public services for the whole population a declared goal, working in the promotion of an equal access to public service guaranteeing the effectiveness of rights.

He also noted that the Ombudsman Institution is aware of the fact that the defense of rights in the context of relations between the administration and users is a collective responsibility with challenges constantly to be met in the face of difficult issues, which requires, according to him, an innovative analysis, a collective intelligence carrying solutions as well as expertise and uninterrupted coordination with the administration, in addition to the exchange of knowledge and good practices.

Hence, for him, the importance of this meeting, “a moment with a strong symbolic charge in the history of the Ombudsman Institution and a crucial turning point in Morocco that considers the protection of rights and freedoms as an essential condition in the building of democracy.”
