Côte d’Ivoire: Ceremony to Hand Keys, Commemorate Sixtieth Anniversary of Peace Mosque, Rehabilitated by HM the King

Yamoussoukro – A double ceremony of handing over the keys and commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the Peace Mosque, rehabilitated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, took place Friday in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking on this occasion, the Ivorian Minister of Trade, Industry and Promotion of SMEs, Souleymane Diarrassouba, recalled the ties of perfect cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Morocco, which are perpetuated through the excellent diplomatic relationship between president Alassane Ouattara and HM King Mohammed VI.

“This mosque, whose work began in 1963 and was completed in 1968, has been for all these years, an iconic place of devotion to the Almighty and has allowed millions of Muslims to perform an essential duty, the five daily prayers, Friday prayers as well as those of the feasts of Ramadan and Tabaski,” added Diarrassouba.

“With the great mosque Mohammed VI of Treichville in Abidjan, the Mosque of Peace Yamoussoukro is for the Ivorian Muslim community the jewels of friendship and brotherhood between Côte d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Morocco, two brotherly countries,” he added.

After so many years of existence, a complete rehabilitation was necessary to allow the mosque to regain its proud appearance, he explained, noting that “with the will of the president of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara, the Kingdom of Morocco led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has brought this brightness that began to miss our beautiful religious building”.

Diarrassouba also expressed “its gratitude to Morocco, which maintains excellent relations with Côte d’Ivoire in several areas of cooperation for many years”.

For his part, the ambassador of HM the King to Côte d’Ivoire, Abdelmalek Kettani, said that this is “a great day for Yamoussoukro and another beautiful day to celebrate, again, the unwavering friendship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, which dates back over 60 years”.
