Akhannouch Holds Talks with Canary Islands Government President

Rabat – Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch held, Wednesday in Rabat, talks with the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who makes a working visit to Morocco.

This visit is part of the continuation of the positive momentum initiated by the holding, last February, of the 12th session of the Moroccan-Spanish High Level Meeting, co-chaired by the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and the President of the Spanish government Pedro Sánchez, said the department of the Head of Government in a statement.

The visit also paves the way for the regional governments of Spain to join in the consecration of the positive position of the central government of Madrid towards the national issue, which emphasizes the relevance of the autonomy plan as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the settlement of the phony dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, according to the same source.

Quoted in the statement, Akhannouch welcomed on this occasion the strength of relations between Morocco and the Canary Islands, stressing that the historical links and geographical proximity between the two parties open promising prospects for economic partnership.

He also praised the Canary Islands companies in Morocco, which take advantage of the considerable opportunities offered by Morocco in the tourism and renewable energy sectors, noting that this economic partnership could be strengthened in the maritime industry, desalination of sea water and tourism promotion.

During this meeting, held in the presence of the Spanish ambassador in Rabat, Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner, the two parties have also emphasized the quality of coordination between Morocco and Spain on the issue of immigration and the fight against networks of human trafficking. They also reviewed ways to strengthen the partnership and cooperation between the Canary Islands and the various regions of Morocco, concluded the statement.
