Moroccan Sahara: Bangladeshi General Appointed Commander of MINURSO

New York – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Thursday the appointment of Bangladeshi General Fakhrul Ahsan as commander of MINURSO.

Fakhrul Ahsan succeeds Pakistani General Zia Ur Rehman, who will complete his mission at the end of March, the UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at his daily press briefing.

Ahsan, who has more than 34 years of experience, has served as commander of the Bangladesh Military Academy and as director of military intelligence at the Bangladesh Army headquarters. He has also served in two peacekeeping missions, in Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
