Road Accidents: 20 Killed in Morocco’s Urban Areas Last Week

Rabat – Twenty people died and 2,341 were injured, including 78 seriously, in 1,731 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week from March 20 to 26, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said Tuesday.

These accidents are mainly due, among others, to the inattention of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, speeding, inattention of pedestrians, change of direction without using the signal, failure to respect the safety distance, said the DGSN in a statement.

Regarding the control and repression of traffic violations, the security services have established 36,176 tickets and 6,372 reports submitted to the prosecutor, while 29,804 fines were collected, said the same source.

The sums collected under these tickets reached 6,361,600 dirhams, according to the statement, which reported the impoundment of 3,343 vehicles, the confiscation of 6,372 documents and the withdrawal of 286 vehicles from circulation.
