Government Welcomes Royal Decision of Officializing Amazigh New Year as National Holiday

Rabat – The government welcomes the Royal decision to establish the Amazigh New Year’s Day as an official paid national holiday, said Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch on Thursday.

Addressing the Council of Government, Akhannouch returned to the decision of HM King Mohammed VI to officialize the Amazigh New Year as a national holiday, expressing his pride in this “historic decision with profound implications.”

This decision reflects the High Royal will that has enabled great progress over the past twenty years, from the historic turning point of the speech of Ajdir, through its constitutional consecration and until the adoption of the organic law on the establishment of the official character of the Amazigh language.

For the Head of Government, this decision enshrines the status of Amazigh as a major component of Moroccan identity, rich in the multitude of its tributaries.

“While welcoming this Royal decision to establish the Amazigh New Year’s Day national holiday and official paid national holiday, the government is also committed to taking all necessary measures for its proper implementation, in accordance with the instructions of HM King Mohammed VI,” he added.
