Speaking at the Council of Ministers, held within the framework of the International Transport Forum (ITF), the Minister expressed his thanks to the ITF Secretary General, Young Tae Kim, and all member countries, for the interest shown in Morocco’s request to join the multilateral system of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT).
The request submitted by the Kingdom aims to support the growth of trade between Morocco and European countries and simplify the conditions of international road transport operations, noted Abdeljalil.
The government official also highlighted the work done by the Group on Road Transport (GTR) in expanding the geographical scope of the quota to non-European countries, including consideration of legal aspects and admission criteria and procedures for candidate countries.
“These actions indicate the willingness of the ITF and the RWG to make progress in meeting our request,” he said.
During this second day, the Minister held a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt, who praised Morocco for having accepted the organization of the 2nd edition of the Kofi Annan Prize for Road Safety, which will be held in Marrakech on September 25-26, as well as for the organization of the 4th Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in 2025, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).
The two parties discussed the road safety situation, especially in Africa, as well as the efforts made by the Kingdom to update its indicators, and the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation in this field.
