In the presence of eminent personalities, including Morocco’s ambassador to the Holy See Rajae Naji Mekkaoui, Pope Francis received at the Apostolic Palace some 50 children from all African nations, including Morocco, as part of a symbolic initiative to commemorate Africa Day, celebrated on May 25.
In a meeting with Naji Mekkaoui, the Pope reiterated his ultimate respect for His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful and Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, expressing to the Sovereign his best wishes for health and long life.
On this occasion, the Pope also renewed his wish to receive HM the King in the Vatican, expressing his deep esteem for the Kingdom of Morocco, linked to the Holy See by distinguished relations.
Africa Day is a symbol of the struggle of the entire continent for liberation, development and economic and social progress, he said in his address.
