Marrakech Conference: Royal Message Expresses HM the King’s Unconditional Commitment to Promoting Values of Tolerance and Religious Coexistence

Marrakech – Speaker of the House of Advisors, Enaam Mayara, said that the Royal Message addressed to participants in the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue expresses HM King Mohammed VI’s unconditional commitment to promoting the values of tolerance and religious coexistence, to make them a tangible reality at national and international level.

Speaking at the closing session of this conference, Mayara noted that the Royal Message is full of testimonials to the openness and benevolence of Morocco and the Moroccan people throughout the ages, underlining the Sovereign’s interest in this conference, organized under His High Patronage.

According to the speaker of the House of Advisors, it is important to use this Royal Message as a reference for establishing any roadmap or action plan in the field of international parliamentary cooperation, under the leadership of the Inter-Parliamentary Union with the aim of including all stakeholders in inter- and intra-religious dialogue.

After praising the pertinent statements of the participants during the Conference’s debates and panels, Mayara stressed that this event demonstrated a high degree of responsibility, through the complementary and supportive positions of the participants, which brought out convergent points of view on interfaith dialogue.

The partnership between religious leaders, legislative institutions and parliamentarians is a matter of great importance and an imperative in building societies that promote religious, cultural and ethnic diversity and where peace and coexistence prevail, but also that reject the instrumentalization of religion for political ends, he lamented.

Mayara also stressed the need for continued coordination and constructive cooperation between legislative institutions and religious leaders, in order to consolidate the values of openness and tolerance, reject calls for hatred and violence, and build a state based on the rule of law as the foundation of a cohesive society, supporting peace and moderation in all parts of the world.
