Kingdom of Morocco, Sultanate of Oman Determined to Open Up New Prospects for Cooperation, Partnership – Bourita

Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman are determined to open up new prospects for cooperation and partnership, said Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, in Rabat on Tuesday.

During a joint press conference with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi at the end of the 6th Morocco-Oman Joint Commission, Bourita said that the two countries agreed on the importance of opening up new areas of cooperation, including renewable energy and the green and digital economy, in addition to consolidating joint efforts in investment, economic and trade-related aspects in order to raise them to the expected level.

The Minister also stressed that this meeting provided an opportunity to review the fruitful cooperation relations between the two countries and discuss ways to raise them to higher levels, in line with the aspirations of the two Sovereigns, HM King Mohammed VI and HM Sultan Haitham Ben Tarek.

The meeting also served to strengthen and enrich the legal framework of bilateral relations through the signing of several memoranda of understanding in the fields of diplomatic academy, maritime and rail transport and ports, he said, adding that other texts on judicial and commercial cooperation, youth, culture and Habous and Islamic affairs are being prepared for signing in the next stage.

Bourita also said that his talks with his Omani counterpart focused on strengthening the strategic partnership relations between Morocco and the GCC, in view of the fact that the sisterly Sultanate of Oman holds the presidency of the current GCC session, expressing his conviction that this country, known for its outstanding role in consolidating the foundations of peace and stability in the region, thanks to the wise leadership of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, will contribute to enriching the work of this Council and strengthening the privileged partnership relations with Morocco.

Bourita also welcomed the position of the Sultanate of Oman in support of the Moroccan Sahara and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. “I take this opportunity to highly appreciate the position of the brotherly Sultanate of Oman in support of the Moroccan Sahara and the territorial integrity of Morocco,” he said.

“His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan people and all the Kingdom’s forces highly appreciate the position of the Sultanate of Oman in support of the Moroccan character of the Sahara,” the Minister continued, noting that this position is not foreign to the sisterly Sultanate of Oman, which participated with a high-level delegation in the glorious Green March in 1975, when the Omani flag was raised alongside the Moroccan flag during this historic epic.
