Palestine: Sultanate of Oman Praises HM the King’s Sustained Efforts to Defend Al-Quds Asharif

Rabat – The Sultanate of Oman praised, on Tuesday in Rabat, the sustained efforts of HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to defend Al-Quds Asharif and its inhabitants, preserve its civilizational identity and its status as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence between monotheistic religions.

This position was expressed in a joint statement issued at the end of the 6th session of the Moroccan-Omani Joint Commission, co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi.

The Sultanate of Oman also hailed the humanitarian and social projects carried out by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, the Committee’s executive arm, to strengthen the attachment of the Holy City’s inhabitants to their land and support their resistance.

Both sides reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people, insisting on their right to establish an independent and sovereign state with East Al-Quds as its capital, based on the principle of the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.

The two ministers called, the statement added, for intensified efforts to break the deadlock in the peace process, and to relaunch negotiations, according to a well-defined timetable that would lead to agreement on all the issues of the final solution, stressing that failure to resolve this issue is likely to “increase tensions and extremism in the region and pose a threat to regional security and stability”.

Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed their commitment to the political and legal status of Al-Quds Asharif, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.

The two parties also reiterated their condemnation of extremism and terrorism in all their forms, whatever their pretexts and motivations, stressing that this dangerous scourge should in no way be associated with any civilization or religion.

They stressed the importance of combining regional and international efforts to combat and eradicate terrorism and its causes.
