Moroccan Sahara: Israeli Recognition Reinforces Morocco’s Efforts for Definitive Solution to Artificial Dispute – Hormatallah

Dakhla – Israel’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara reinforces the diplomatic efforts deployed by the Kingdom, under the Wise Vision of HM King Mohammed VI, to find a definitive solution to this artificial dispute, said the President of the Dakhla Communal Council, Erragheb Hormatallah.

In a statement to MAP, Hormatallah said that the decision was part of a series of recognitions by several world powers, led by the United States, of the Moroccan status of the Sahara.

This decision is the fruit of Morocco’s tireless diplomatic efforts, which have been crowned by clear positions of support from several countries around the world, he added.

The President of the Dakhla Communal Council pointed out that Israeli recognition will have a very significant impact on all the southern provinces in terms of attracting new investment, particularly in the agricultural sector, in which Israel sees itself as a pioneering country.

“As elected representatives and residents of the city of Dakhla, we welcomed with great satisfaction the State of Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara,” a decision that will have positive repercussions for the inhabitants of the Dakhla region and all of Morocco’s southern provinces, he concluded.

A press release from the Royal Cabinet announced earlier in the day that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, had received a letter from the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, His Excellency Mr. Benkamin Netanyahu, in which the Head of the Israeli Government brought to the Very High Attention of His Majesty the King the decision of the State of Israel to “recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over the territory of Western Sahara.”

In this respect, the Israeli Prime Minister indicated that his country’s position will be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli Government.”

He also stressed that the decision would be “transmitted to the United Nations, to regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.”

In his letter to the Sovereign, the Israeli Prime Minister informed that Israel is positively considering “the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla,” as part of the implementation of this State decision.
