Born on July 7, 1942 in Fez, Mohamed Sekkat joined the Ministry of Finance in 1966. In 1970, he became deputy director, then director of the Budget.
In 1983, he was appointed director general of Customs and Indirect Taxation.
From 1986 to 1989, the late Mohamed Sekkat was appointed secretary of state for Foreign Affairs responsible for relations with the European Economic Community.
In September 1989, he was appointed governor of Bank Al-Maghrib in the context of the structural adjustment plan. In this capacity, he contributed to the advancement of financial reforms, the reform of the Central Bank’s statutes and the drafting of the new banking law.
