Casablanca: Firefighters Contain Blaze near Bus Station; No Casualties

Rabat – A fire broke out on Friday at the Beggar (pronounced ‘bag-GAHR’) field opposite to the Ouled Ziane bus station, typically populated by undocumented sub-Saharan migrants, said local authorities, reassuring the blazes have been contained.

According to local authorities in the Al Fida-Mers Sultan district prefecture, the fire broke out at around 6 a.m.. Immediately alerted, on-site security authorities and civil protection services took the necessary measures. No loss of life was recorded.

One migrant, who was slightly injured in the fire, has been evacuated to Mohamed Bouafi Hospital for treatment, the same source added, noting that authorities have rescued other migrants by evacuating them from the scene of the fire.

An investigation has been initiated by the competent authorities to clarify the circumstances of the fire.
