DGAPR Denounces RSF’s ‘Deliberate Bad Faith’ Regarding Case of Inmate O.R

Rabat – The General Delegation of the Prison Administration and Rehabilitation (DGAPR) has denounced the “deliberate bad faith” and “blatant hostility” towards Morocco of the French organization Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) in its handling of the case of Inmate O.R.

In a statement sent to MAP on Thursday, the DGAPR said that “despite the publication by the management of the local Tiflet 2 prison, on June 13 2023, of a clarification concerning the allegations made by the father of detainee O.R., imprisoned in this facility on a matter of public law, the French organization Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) persisted in sticking its nose into the case by repeating the same allegations on its website, without taking into account the clarification from the prison establishment.”

In so doing, added the same source, RSF “reveals its deliberate bad faith and blatant hostility towards the Kingdom, even though this is a case of public law that has nothing to do with the freedom of the press it prides itself on defending.”

“No one is unaware of the extreme right-wing ideology of the organization’s founder and former president, the nature of the links and parties manipulating the organization’s representative in North Africa, and its proven animosity towards Morocco,” recalled the DGAAR, before concluding that RSF has “become impartial in its treatment of all issues related to Morocco and is not qualified, either morally or professionally, to give lessons to the Kingdom in terms human rights.”

“The persistence in propagating untruths about the case of the above-mentioned detainee, in parallel with the attempts of certain internal parties to avail themselves of the support of foreign organizations devoid of any credibility, will not prevent the DGAPR from fully assuming its mission of applying the law in all penitentiary facilities and on an equal footing between all detainees, while continuing to inform public opinion whenever necessary in order to expose and denounce false allegations aimed at damaging the sector’s image and Morocco’s human rights reputation, both at home and abroad,” concluded the statement.
