Signed on the sidelines of the closing session of the round table “Morocco-Netherlands: Fostering the energy transition for a sustainable future”, in the presence of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and several Moroccan and Dutch officials and businessmen, the two memorandums aim to strengthen cooperation in areas linked to sustainable development, public infrastructure and the energy transition.
To this end, a first memorandum concerning the development and financing of public infrastructure projects in Morocco was signed by Rutte, the Chairman and CEO of “Invest International”, Joost Oothuizen, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah.
This MoU aims to strengthen areas of cooperation that are priorities for both Morocco and Invest International, notably in sectors linked to water and infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energies, sustainable industry and health.
The second memorandum, signed by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, aims to promote cooperation in the field of renewable energies and new fuels.
The agreement will provide joint support for existing and future international initiatives and alliances relating to renewable energy and new fuels, and facilitate the matching of supply and demand in terms of investment and trade between producers of new renewable fuels and buyers.
The memorandum also aims to promote new clean energy sources, in particular offshore wind power, and new uses for renewable energy sources, such as seawater desalination, and to support research, capacity building, innovation and academic exchanges.
In a statement to the press, Benali hailed the strategic energy partnership between the two countries, which is being further consolidated through the signing of a memorandum of understanding on energy transition, new energies and energy efficiency.
This meeting is an ideal opportunity to reaffirm the importance of the exchange of expertise between Morocco and the Netherlands, and the exchange of investments in favor of economic development, she noted, highlighting the Moroccan and Dutch infrastructures in this field.
She also stressed the importance of regional and international integration in energy markets, including future energy markets, welcoming the fruitful visit of the high-level Dutch delegation from the public and private sectors.
