Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this event is organized by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), and the World Water Council (WWC).
The main objective of the meeting, as stated in the Ministry’s press release, is to discuss and exchange ideas regarding the implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), as well as address the challenges presented by climate change. The event will bring together political representatives and international experts who will share their experiences in this field.
Additionally, the meeting aims to emphasize the crucial role of basin organizations in all aspects of water resource management. By doing so, a strong message will be sent to the international water and climate community about the importance of intensifying efforts to implement IWRM at the basin level as a tool for adapting to climate change, according to the press release.
The upcoming event is expected to attract approximately 500 participants from various countries. The discussions will revolve around five key themes namely “innovation and technologies for water saving”, “groundwater management”, “water governance”, “mobilization of water resources”, and “commitments by and for basins”.
These themes have been derived from HM the King’s speech on October 14, 2022, on the occasion of the opening of the 2nd legislative year of the 11th legislature, which attached major importance to the water challenges facing Morocco.
This event is the third edition of the ICWC, following the successful organization of the 1st and 2nd editions in Rabat in 2016 and Marseille in 2017, respectively.
