Israel’s Recognition of Moroccanness of Sahara Consolidates Kingdom’s Diplomatic Position (Director of Colombia’s Jewish Community)

Bogota – The recognition by the State of Israel of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara makes it possible to “strengthen the Kingdom’s position diplomatically” and further consolidate the growth of bilateral relations, according to Marcos Peckel, director of the Jewish Community of Colombia.

In a statement to MAP in reaction to Israel’s decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, the leader of the Jewish community in Colombia said that since 2020, relations between Morocco and Israel “have evolved very rapidly in many areas and commercial, tourist, military and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries has been quite accelerated”.

For Marcos Peckel, it’s only natural that Israel should adopt this position that is in line with the consolidation of bilateral relations, which “will continue to develop, because there’s a lot to do”, he insisted.

Marcos Peckel recalled his recent visit to Laayoune, where he witnessed at first hand the implementation of close scientific cooperation between Morocco and Israel, with the participation of Israeli, African and Asian scientists.

“I think that relations between Morocco and Israel have a bright future, because of the development opportunities they offer in the fields of tourism, scientific exchanges, water and agriculture, diplomacy, as well as security and cybersecurity. This cooperation has developed rapidly and will continue to grow in the future”, said the director of the Jewish Community of Colombia.
