Morocco Has ‘Very Privileged’ Relationship with International Financial Institutions (Minister)

Paris – Morocco is open to Europe and has a very privileged relationship with the rest of the world, particularly with financial institutions, said Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah.

In an interview with “Forbes Afrique” magazine, Fettah noted that Morocco’s experience with these institutions is a “very good example of success”, as it capitalizes on the instruments they offer to implement its economic and social development, finance its reforms and build its infrastructure to cope with crises.

“The role Morocco plays in the development of the African continent is extremely important,” she noted, stressing that thanks to the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has always been determined to play a locomotive role in Africa, through various levers of bilateral, regional and continental cooperation.

In this context, the Minister underlined the “very strong mobilization” of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) for the Annual Meetings of the Bretton Woods institutions, to be held in Marrakech on October 9-15.

“On this occasion, we are building a village dedicated to the Annual Meetings which will respect the principles of sustainability (wooden constructions, reuse of waste water…)”, she noted, explaining that “this is an important commitment”, as it paves the way for other countries on the African continent which do not have the necessary infrastructure to host events of this scale.

As for the economic spin-offs expected for Marrakech, and for Morocco, after the organization of these Meetings, Fettah said that “those who come will see the concrete achievements carried out under the high guidance of His Majesty: true democracy, true involvement of civil society, talented youth”.
