“Lerepublicainsn” newspaper wrote that “Morocco surfed the waves at the 9th Francophonie Games, which wrapped up on Sunday in Kinshasa, winning 58 medals, a first in the Kingdom’s sporting history”.
The publication pointed out that Morocco topped the rankings of this sporting and cultural event for the first time in its history, well ahead of Romania, which took 38 medals and came second.
“The Kingdom, which had never before won so many medals at the Francophonie Games, sets a new record in the field with 42 medals in athletics, 8 in judo, 5 in road cycling, 2 in wrestling and one in ball juggling”, highlighted the media outlet, recalling that the Kingdom’s previous record had been achieved in Cote d’Ivoire (2017), with 42 medals (13 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze).
For its part, the “Senego” paper reported that the other highlight of Morocco’s participation is the importance played by women in the national sporting landscape showcased through Moroccan female athletes winning the majority of medals (34 out of 58 medals, 18 of which are gold).
Morocco, a member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), organized the first edition of the Francophonie Games in Casablanca in 1989, where it came 3rd, with 21 medals, recalled the same source.
