Free Trade Agreements: Moroccan Imports up 20.9% in 2022 (Report)

Rabat – Morocco’s imports under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) reached 207.8 billion dirhams in 2022, up 20.9% on 2021, according to the Exchange Office’s annual report on Morocco’s foreign trade.

66.6% of these imports were made under the agreement with the European Union (EU), the Office points out in the report, drawn up in accordance with the United Nations manual (IMTS 2010).

Imports under the agreement with the EU rose by 15.1%, thanks to increased imports from Spain (+15.1%), France (+10.4%), Italy (+16.7%) and Germany (+13.4%), notes the same source.

The agreement with the United States ranked second, ahead of the agreement with Turkey, accounting for 15.2% of total FTA imports. Imports under this agreement amounted to 31.5 billion dirhams in 2022, an increase of 60.8% compared with 2021.

Imports under the Agadir Agreement rose by 16% in 2022.The increase concerns imports from all countries that have signed the agreement.

Imports from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), on the other hand, stabilized after a 4.1% drop in 2021.The decline in imports from Norway (-166 million dirhams ) and Iceland (-2 million dirhams) was offset by the rise in imports from Switzerland (MAD +172 mln) and Liechtenstein (MAD +2 mln).

Imports under the Turkey agreement have risen by 20.5% to 27.1 billion dirhams in 2022.
