“We would like to draw inspiration from the Moroccan model, particularly in terms of agricultural waqf,” Ba stressed in an interview with the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
In this regard, the Senegalese official added that since agriculture is an “important sector for our country,” the High Authority for Waqf would like to work in this direction with the Kingdom of Morocco.
He recalled that after the establishment of the High Authority of Waqf, a delegation “visited the Kingdom of Morocco, whose model is closer to ours,” noting that other partnerships have been sealed with other countries for the development of waqf in Senegal.
“Since 2018, partnerships have been forged mainly with Gulf countries with which we have close relations, such as the United Arab Emirates,” he noted.
The HAW director general also recalled that in December 2022, 19 imams visited the High Authority of Waqf in the United Arab Emirates for training and awareness sessions on waqf (an Islamic concept similar to the Western concept of endowment), to enable further popularization in Senegal.
“In addition, we are looking forward to partnerships with Qatar, Kuwait and also the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where good offices missions have been carried out,” he stressed.
