“With a cumulative investment of nearly 16.4 billion euros (…) the Kingdom could become an important supplier” to the Old Continent in terms of green hydrogen to meet 5% of continental demand,” writes the specialist newspaper, noting that Morocco wants to become a “heavyweight in the sector.”
Referring to a study carried out by the German Fraunhofer Institute, which specializes in applied science research, the Spanish publication reports that Morocco is accelerating its production of green hydrogen to reach a total of 160 Terawatt-hours by 2050.
The Kingdom’s commitment to green hydrogen has not been long in coming, as colossal efforts have been made since 2021 to develop the value chain, notes the newspaper.
Quoting the Director of the National Hydrogen Center, Emilio Nieto, the publication points out that Spain and Italy have the potential to become an entry point into Europe for the production of Moroccan green hydrogen.
