Morocco is changing dimension and aims to assert its status as a “new power” in Africa, which will have a multidimensional impact on North-South relations, provided that a “community of destinies” can see the light of day between the two shores, said president of the Moroccan Institute of Strategic Intelligence (IMIS), in an analysis published by the French media “La Tribune”, under the title “what the trajectory of Morocco means for France and Europe”.
Referring to the speech addressed by HM King Mohammed VI to the nation, on the occasion of the Throne Day, the expert noted that the Sovereign has set this time as a priority the urgent implementation of a new generation of reforms in favor of gender equality, nearly eighteen years after the profound overhaul of the personal status code.
The choice of this theme in the current context informs on the singularities of the Kingdom and the explanation of the positive economic and social trajectory of this millennium state, which has managed – according to the World Bank in 2022 – to “display better budgetary indicators than most emerging economies”, he stressed.
According to him, it is not surprising that HM the King seeks to draw a strategic horizon broader than the contingencies of the moment, by putting back on the legislative loom the issue of women’s rights (…), to give a second wind to this reform in order to correct some of its shortcomings.
